A rare opportunity to secure a permanent residential mooring agreement together with a lease of adjacent land at Hampton Hall Farm Houseboats, Grand Union Canal, Batchworth, Rickmansworth. The successful applicant will become a member of Alders Moorings Co-operative.
Application and shortlisting.
Vacant berths at Alders rarely become available. The application form is a shortlisting process, and the berth will not be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
The co-operative will review the membership applications together and draw up a shortlist. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to the moorings for a site visit, which will also provide an opportunity to ask questions about the co-operative and the berth. The co-operative wishes to consider the likely benefit applicants could bring to the community at Alders and to the wider boating community.
Applications must be submitted by Sunday 16 August 2026. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an open day and site visit at the moorings on Sunday 23 August 2026.

The mooring can accommodate a suitable narrowboat, wide-beam or houseboat up to 58ft. A boat is not included. A telephone landline connection is available if required. Any allocation remains subject to vessel approval, membership and completion of the relevant agreements.

Mooring 33 is on private property owned and operated by Alders Moorings Co-operative, beside the Grand Union Canal at Batchworth.
Adjacent land
A separate parcel of land approximately 3 metres deep lies directly behind the mooring. It is distinct from the mooring itself and may be adapted to suit the resident's needs, subject to any relevant permissions.
Setting and facilities
Woodland lies to the rear. Access is by a private track from the residents' car park. On-site facilities include recycling, waste disposal and a secure postal delivery room.

Membership
What membership involves.
A successful applicant must become a member of the co-operative and enter into a mooring agreement.
Meetings and decisions
Members may attend and vote at general meetings. Each member has one vote, and members elect the management committee.
Running the site
The co-operative is run and managed by its members in their free time. Members are expected to contribute through committee work, administration, practical maintenance or other agreed tasks. Contributions need not be physical and will depend on a member's skills and circumstances.
Rules and agreements
Members must comply with the co-operative's rules and their mooring agreement, maintain their mooring and associated land, avoid causing nuisance and keep their vessel appropriately insured.

Complete the questionnaire
Submit the requested information about your circumstances, proposed boat and potential contribution to the co-operative and wider boating community by Sunday 16 August 2026.

Applications reviewed
The membership applications will be reviewed together. Applying earlier will not give an applicant priority.

Open day and site visit
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to the moorings on Sunday 23 August 2026 to see the berth and ask questions about the site and the co-operative.

Selection and agreements
Any allocation is subject to admission as a member, approval of the vessel and completion of the mooring agreement and associated land lease.

The co-operative is managed by members in their free time and does not have the resources to respond to individual enquiries before the shortlisting stage. Shortlisted applicants will have the opportunity to ask questions during the site visit.
